- 1. Please introduce yourself.
- i'm claire cloverkeep! i'm not the most experiented coder, but i hope this'll still be even slightly enjoyable to read!
- 2. How long have you been making websites?
- since 2024! this is my first ever site.
- 3. And what got you into the hobby?
- i just remembered neocities was a thing and went "huh i could probably make a website like right now" and i did it. i wish i had a more special reason, like i was inspired by someone specifically, but oh well. not everything has to be some big thing.
- 4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
- personal websites, especially ones featuring galleries. i love looking at other people's art!!
- 5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
- i plan them a little. i planned this current version in mspaint before getting around to coding it all, but i changed my ideas as i went along and my vision began to solidify. i also used a base code that seemed like it could be tweaked to my vision, and it could! so yeah.
- 6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
- well, i use the same base code that maphren does, and i generally just really like their site! anyone i follow on here is an inspiration of mine, though. i'd feel embarrassed pointing anyone else out directly...
- 7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
- design, design, design!! i love picking out fonts that look well together, pulling together a cohesive color palette, drawing art to match... it's all really fun for me. even the actual coding process is something quite fun for me.
- 8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
- probably keeping my code clean. i try to keep it consistent, but i'm only human.
- 9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
- i've kept the same layout for consistency's sake. i think it's fun when others make different layouts for every page, but it tends to be a little disorienting for me...
- 10. How confident are you with CSS?
- pretty confident. i know i can make everything look the way i want to with enough little changes.
- 11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
- well, it's used here, so i suppose i do.
- 12. What is your favourite HTML element?
- <br>... i love line breaks... so versatile... <div> is good too, also for versatility.
- 13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
- the only page i made from scratch is my 404 page so, um... i guess the css for the body?? (man i am Not the target audience for this... i use base codes...)
- 14. Do you know JavaScript?
- enough to work my way around preexisting code, yes! doubt i could do anything on my own yet though. i used js for the first time on my wills site, when making both pages locked behind codes and a full-on quiz. That was scary. but i understand it better because of it, so!
- 15. How about PHP?
- ...no, haha...
- 16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
- pink, green, and cute. i wish i had a screenshot from 1.0, it was tooootally different... but, now, i stick to those three things. i doubt i'll do another huge overhaul in the future, especially stylistically.
- 17. Are you more focused on content or design?
- both are equally important to me. i want a site that looks good, but if there's nothing to keep you looking, then there isn't much of a point, is there?
- 18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
- i do not! maybe i would someday. it's not a huge deal to me right now.
- 19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
- eh? i think it's fine. you do you and all. i take no issue with them. just not my personal preference, is all.
- 20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
- i don't know. i don't check. i just do whatever.
- 21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
- super cute!! i love seeing what other people do for their buttons and stuff. it's really cool what some people do with such a limited amount of space. i see less banners, but they're cool too.
- 22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
- i prefer when people make button walls that also share their personal opinions on the site, rather than just a huge wall that's hard to parse. but i like the practice overall. it's quite sweet.
- 23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
- please don't make me start over again please please please and probably similar. i like cute things. i want a cute site.
- 24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
- not really. i was at first, which was what led to 3.0's existence. but, i'm so incredibly fond of what my site looks like now that i don't think i could have even a smidge of envy in me. i do admire what others are able to do, though, but that's different from envy.
- 25. What text editor do you use?
- visual studio code.
- 26. Why do you use that one?
- i saw someone else who used it and went "huh that's probably better than using the neocities editor" and made the switch instantly. also, i can code in ren'py with it, so it covers both of my use cases.
- 27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
- a majority of my images are hosted on site, but i host all the art in my gallery in filegarden. just a personal preference thing to plan for the future when my gallery is huge and spans like six years.
- 28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
- is this a big thing...? i just use neocities because it was what i knew about first. i have nothing against any nekoweb users. it seems neat.
- 29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
- i have no clue. likely not too much, i hope.
- 30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
- yes! i have all my files backed up on my laptop, as well as on a flash drive in case i ever need it.
- 31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
- both have their uses, but i'd say i prefer visual. unless the site gives me a headache, then i certainly don't.
- 32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
- i do stick to specific colors, and it's probably on purpose. my mascots use those same colors, after all. though, i do just generally like both pink and green.
- 33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
- never. i like my site quite a lot, and i like how much freedom it gives me for personal expression on the internet. i may go on hiatuses, but i'd never outright quit.
- 34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
- i'm currently convincing my girlfriend to make a site, but other than that, i'm all on my lonesome. i'm a pretty shy person, but if you ever want to be friends, feel free to leave a message in my guestbook or something!
- 35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
- i talk about it pretty openly with my friends, so yes.
- 36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
- well, the 3.0 update will be the first update in... a little under a year, so... haha... i'm going to try and update every few months after this point. key word is try. i have a video game to work on, after all.
- 37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
- i've gone through three big iterations in two years, so i guess so. i don't want to after this point, though. my old designs spoke to me when they were made, but not so much now. my current design is something i'm extremely happy with, so i think it'll stay for a while.
- 38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
- me and hobby focused. i talk a lot about the things i like and do here.
- 39. Do you do web design professionally?
- i do not!
- 40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
- ehh... maybe? i have other career goals that i'd be more invested in. i much prefer sitemaking as a hobby. and i'm currently a NEET.
- 41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
- not really, no. i'd be open to it, but it has never really been my thing.
- 42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
- i do, unfortunately. you can find the ones i don't mind people knowing about on my links page. but here is where i want to be the most.
- 43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
- i use discord. i know, i know. throw tomatoes at me. it's just what i'm used to. i've been using it for an extremely long time, and all my friends use it too. kind of hard to rally all your friends into using poob for a week until it shuts down.
- 44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
- yes!! i listen to a wide range of things. currently, i'm listening to eirin's clinic that people queue up for by iosys. over the course of this update, i also remember listening to: all day by girl talk, i love my computer by ninajirachi, sleep talk metropolis by mili, the electric lady by janelle monae, and romeo by basement jaxx, to name a few.
- 45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
- i have two websites, one you're currently on and one for my game, wills align. i call it an arg to be silly but it barely is. it's just a place where i'm putting meager amounts of information before the game actually comes out. i've thought about making a completely separate gijinkalocke site, too, but i dunno. we'll see.
- 46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
- many. i once had an ex-friend of mine say that they "couldn't figure me out" because i didn't have one main interest, or something along those lines. i don't want to be that type of person.
- 47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
- everyone constructs a persona, i think. we naturally talk differently with family and friends, strangers and lovers. but i try to be open about who i am. if the maid thing seems out of left field, just know i've liked them for years and have only felt comfortable enough with myself to talk about it as of late.
- 48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
- not yet, but there's always the chance i could in the future. that would be nice.
- 49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
- it works for me and my purposes, so i'd say i'm pretty happy.
- 50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
- coding only in browser. that's why i don't have what my site looked like when i first made it, since it was all in browser. also, hotlinking, unless the person you're linking from doesn't mind. i think a lot of people don't like hard-coded css either, but i'm extremely guilty of it, so i'm not one to talk.
- 51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
- it's always fun for me when a site uses javascript. i like when people do special quotes for each day of the month, or on a refresh (what i do!). i like little stuff like that, makes things feel more interactive. i also like back to top buttons. super helpful.
- 52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
- well, all my stuff is in divs, so i suppose i am guilty...
- 53. Do you consider different browsers?
- ...not really. i don't consider other monitor sizes either. my site looks fuuuuucked on my girlfriend's monitor because it's super long. it might be nice to figure this stuff out in the future, but i don't have the time to at the moment. sorry edgers (people who use microsoft edge).
- 54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
- firefox. i don't think i need to convince people to use it, since everyone has their preferences. but it's been reliable in the four or so years i've used it.
- 55. And what OS are you on?
- windows 10.
- 56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
- windows 11 will never take me alive my poor poor beautiful laptop cannot handle it and i know it. it's just what i'm used to, so i use it. once extended security updates stop, i'm open to figuring out something else. perhaps even linux.
- 57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
- likely not, and i'm sorry. it should still look decent on mobile, i think? desktop is the intended experience anyways.
- 58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
- pisses me off!!!!! stop it!!!! stop doing this!!!! yes, you can make your site however you want, but stop having autoplaying music or sound effects or anything!!!! gaaahhh!!!! it's always more annoying than cool.
- 59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?
- i think it's very very sweet! i'd love to be in some! i haven't joined any since, as of writing this, cloverkeep 3.0 isn't out and i want my current site to be associated with any i'd be in. but maybe i'll be in a couple later!!
- 60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?
- i would loooove to make some, but i simply do not have the time at the moment. i like when the summary of what the shrine is about is brief. i like hearing what people think on things, and half the time i already know what the shrine is about. but it is nice for when i rarely don't.
- 61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
- i use a template that other people likely also use. everything can be considered cliche if it's been seen enough times. i don't really know, and i don't really care. i'm just doing what i want to do.
- 62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
- everyone does things differently, so my ideal is different than others. i don't want to bring anyone down. my ideal for myself is just somewhere where i can put my art, my writing, my thoughts, and all that. and i want it to look nice alongside that.i suppose i'm striving for it, but i've also already reached it in my mind.
- 63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?
- i am, yes!! and i do!! i've tried real hard to design pretty much every single thing on my site as of now. there may be a few exceptions, but at least all the art is mine.
- 64. What are your favourite resource sites?
- i go to w3schools and mozilla web dev docs quite often if i run into something i don't know about. otherwise, i just look up "how to [BLANK]" in google and look through the results until i find something i'm happy with.
- 65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?
- hard-coding css.........
- 66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
- keep at it!! try, try again!! html and css will NOT bite your head off, i swear!! how i learned was by jumping into a base code and seeing what made everything tick. it's not as hard as it looks, i promise!! it just takes a little practice!!
- 67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
- some of it is hard-coded. i know it's not the best, but i want specific things to look specific ways and it's the way i know how to do that... any major things are in a stylesheet, though.
- 68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
- not really my thing. nothing against them, though! they have their usecases.
- 69. How about table-based layouts?
- also not my thing. also nothing against them. also sure they have their usecases.
- 70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
- mine is two-column. i like them. i think one is two little, three is a little too much, but two is juuuust right. for me, anyways.
- 71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
- html. it's where all the contents of the site are, which i take a much longer time to write.
- 72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
- i guess i have? it's fine? i prefer styling stuff, though, even if i'm just thinking.
- 73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
- i don't make layouts, so... haha.
- 74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?
- middle. i'm better than i was when i started, but i absolutely cannot build a site from scratch. nothing wrong with that given my level of expertise suits my needs nicely.
- 75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
- yes. all the time. i never steal things, obviously, but if i see something i like, i'll try and figure out how it works, then recreate it myself.
- 76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
- if we're talking about just websites, i found a base code i liked and picked it apart until i knew how everything worked. but for coding in general, i've been coding pages on toyhouse since late 2020. in fact, all my current layouts on toyhouse are handcoded by me!
- 77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
- i don't think i do?
- 78. Thoughts on floating elements?
- neat, but real finicky. i have a couple and they piss me off, but i still use them since that's how i want things to look. sigh...
- 79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
- i use px. i like things to be precise.
- 80. Do you have a favourite font?
- the font you're reading this in is (Cyberpunk Waifus) up there. any fonts i use on this site are ones i really, really like. i'm also a fan of Marcellus SC and Ancizar Sans, the fonts i'm using for my visual novel!
- 81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?
- i'd be open to it if i could figure out a way to make it work that doesn't make my head implode a little. even then, i think only some sort of shared blogging type thing would work, or a hub for all my world's characters with bios written by the owners of each character. i'd still be the "owner" in that case. i think it depends. isn't in the cards right now.
- 82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?
- fairly often, if i have the time! i always like seeing what other people are up to.
- 83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?
- i have a couple bookmarked. i guess i'd feel a little honored that someone likes my site enough to bookmark it. my girlfriend has my site bookmarked, and it makes me feel pretty happy, hehe.
- 84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
- i'm not really looking to impress anyone. but i'd like for people to like my art and my characters.
- 85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?
- i'm decently interested, i'd say. i'm interested in game consoles specifically. i don't really collect them, but i happen to have a 3ds xl, a 2ds xl, and a dsi xl in my possession. all three are childhood ones, though. i'd love to get a psp someday. pangya...
- 86. How often and for how long are you online?
- We don't have to talk about this.
- 87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?
- me, first and foremost. second would be my friends, i suppose.
- 88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?
- not really.
- 89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?
- does making a game count as programming...? if so, then yes. but i haven't made any programs for my website. i'm not that knowledgeable.
- 90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
- i've tried, but nothing suited my tastes. i'd be open to trying again, if i ever want to make another website.
- 91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?
- i do, and it's just for fun. i may even get rid of it if the numbers go to my head. i don't like tracking numbers, but i like my little robots...
- 92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?
- not really. i used to be on the old pokecharms forums, fun fact. That place is a lawless land. I hate it. i think forums are cool overall, though, so i'd be open to trying again.
- 93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?
- direclty into the editor. it's easier for me to format it that way.
- 94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?
- i literally could not care less about this in the slightest. my image in other peoples' heads is none of my business. i just want to be myself, no matter if i'm liked or not.
- 95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?
- not at all!!! i'm never embarrassed of my old work. i have a copy of cloverkeep 2.0 on my desktop, after all. it's fun to look back on to see how far i've come. i oh so desperately wish i had a copy of cloverkeep 1.0...
- 96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?
- i'd leave an archive. i'd never want to close this place down.
- 97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?
- i reveal what i want to. a good mix of both works for me.
- 98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?
- i don't want to put a spotlight on anyone, buuut... my closest and longest online friend is my good pal leafy!! we've been friends for, what, eight years now? he doesn't have a website, but if he ever made one i'd link it to mine in a heartbeat!! if you're reading this, imagine me giving you a fist bump or something. you da man.
- 99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
- i draw small enough that i don't really think i have to, haha.
- 100. We're out of time! How do you feel after answering 100 questions? ....other than exhausted.
- pretty good!! i feel like my answers aren't the most insightful, but oh well. finished this at 1:47 pm on august 31, 2026.
